London Chamber of Commerce John Clifford - Conrad Capital
John Clifford BSc. (Hons) Managing Director
The   Managing   Director   and   Founder   of   Conrad   Capital,   John   is   a   highly   experienced   financial   &   legal   entrepreneur   who   has   been   running   a   variety   of successful finance companies since graduating from Imperial College London in 1982 with a First-Class Honours degree in mathematics.   Having   launched   his   first   lending   company   back   in   2010   John   has   spent   nine   years   building   strong   and   reciprocal   relationships   with   many   leading   legal, accountancy,   restructuring   and   insolvency   firms   and   banks,   forming   an   “exclusive   introducer   club”.   2017   saw   John   being   asked   more   and   more   often   by these   firms   whether   Conrad   could   “deal   directly”   with   their   clients.   Ultimately   these   requests   were   the   catalyst   behind   his   decision   to   launch   a   bespoke   new lending proposition alongside his original lending platform Central Bridging.   John   determined   that   at   the   core   of   Conrad   Capital’s   ethos   would   be   an   absolute   focus   on   service   levels.   Never   previously   had   a   lender   in   this   sector ensured   that   all   potential   clients   receive   initial   contact   both   expeditiously   and   on   a   one   to   one   basis   by   a   director.   It   is   perhaps   little   surprise   that   this   level of commitment has been embraced by both professional introducers and their clients and led to enthusiastic levels of support.   This,   as   well   as   all   of   the   experience   John   has   gained   over   many   years   and,   in   particular,   since   the   launch   of   Central   Bridging,   which   has   included representing   HNW   &   UNHW   clients,   as   well   as   corporate   and   financial   institutions,   both   in   the   UK   and   overseas,   has   been   distilled   into   Conrad   Capital   to provide a unique opportunity for investors.
Kelly O’Connell Relationship Manager
Kelly   is   an   integral   part   of   the   Conrad   Team   having   worked   with   John   for   over   twenty   years.   She   is   a   key   managerial   interface   with   Conrad’s   exclusive introducer club but is equally comfortable dealing with their clients and third-party providers. Having   been   involved   in   all   administrative,   legal   and   senior   management   areas   and   having   at   one   time   managed   over   thirty   office   staff   and   key   national accounts   for   several   major   UK   lenders   her   knowledge   and   ability   to   multi   task   is   beyond   question.   Kelly   ensures   that   all   parties   are   pulling   in   the   same direction and that results are achieved in the shortest possible time-frame. A   keen   and   perceptive   mind   also   marks   Kelly   out   as   a   very   effective   Manager.   She   is   never   afraid   to   ask   the   difficult   questions   and   as   a   result   cuts   quickly   to the   core   of   any   issues.   Conversely,   once   a   case   is   being   processed,   she   takes   time   to   fully   understand   each   client,   ensuring   that   loans   are   adapted   to   their needs and that Conrad’s professional introducers are kept informed every step of the way.   A   consummate   professional   with   an   easy-going   telephone   manner   and   an   un-paralleled   work   ethic,   Kelly   is   very   much   the   glue   that   binds   the   Conrad   Team together.
Brian West BA (Hons) Private Client Manager
Brian   is   a   results   driven   Sales   Leader   with   over   twenty   years   of   experience   operating   in   UK   specialist   lending   markets   and   a   track   record   of   success   across wide ranging environments, from entrepreneurial to Blue Chip. He   played   a   key   role   in   the   development   of   the   pioneering   and   hugely   successful   iGroup   brand   and   has   subsequently   played   a   major   role   in   the   launch   and development   of   several   new   lenders   from   regulated   mortgage   and   secured   loan   specialists   to   businesses   focussed   purely   on   bridging   and   development finance. Against   this   background   Brian   has   no   hesitation   in   confirming   that   Conrad   is   one   of   the   most   innovative   new   lenders   he   has   yet   been   involved   with.   Most particularly   he   sees   the   core   principle   that   every   client   is   initially   contacted   by   a   Conrad   Director   as   a   ‘game   changer’   underpinning   as   it   does   a   level   of service hitherto unseen in the short-term lending industry. Brian   and   John   have   known   each   other   professionally   for   over   twenty-two   years   and   together   are   able   to   apply   a   very   complimentary   skill   set   to   the   Conrad proposition.
Stephane Landers CFA
You   could   describe   Stephane   as   a   “Financier   turned   Property   Developer”,   but   in   truth   this   doesn’t   begin   to   do   justice   to   the   incredibly   diverse,   colourful   and hugely successful career he has enjoyed too date.   A   degree   in   Anthropology,   early   charity   work   in   Eastern   Europe   and   time   spent   in   pharmaceutical   sales   in   Saudi   Arabia   were   a   brilliant   grounding   but   having always   set   his   sights   on   a   career   in   finance,   Stephane   joined   an   investment   bank   as   an   Equity   Analyst   and   trained   to   earn   the   Chartered   Financial   Analyst designation.   After   years   of   giving   advice   to   others,   Stephane   became   a   Proprietary   Trader,   to   put   his   own   ideas   into   action,   successfully   setting   up   and managing   a   European   equity   portfolio   of   over   £100m.   His   last   10   years   in   the   City   were   spent   in   several   senior   advisory   and   trading   roles   with   boutique investment firms, servicing the hedge fund industry.   Stephane   left   his   last   position   in   finance   in   2016   but   not   before   relocating   to   Monaco   where   he   now   permanently   resides.   He   currently   works   with   a   wide range   of   businesses   as   an   angel   investor   and   venture   capitalist,   but   it’s   as   Chairman   of   his   own   property   development   company   based   in   the   North   West   of England,   that   he   perhaps   gains   most   satisfaction.   A   portfolio   of   projects   across   Cheshire   with   a   primary   focus   on   Altrincham   has   seen   Stephane’s   Company deliver a combined GDV of over £50m, with a current pipeline of over 100 new residential units.   A   strong   entrepreneurial   spirit   with   an   eye   that   is   always   focused   on   innovation,   Stephane   is   the   archetypal   out-of-the-box   thinker.   It   was   his   involvement   as a   lender   in   the   P2P   sector   that   first   brought   him   into   contact   with   Conrad   Managing   Director   John   and   it   quickly   became   clear   that   the   two   had   a   strong, shared   business   ethos.   Having   worked   together   subsequently   on   several   smaller   projects   Conrad   now   provides   the   perfect   opportunity   for   Stephane,   John and the rest of the Conrad team to mould and build a market leading international lending platform.
Sir Richard Lapthorne CBE, BCom, FCMA, FCCA, FCT, CBIM
Sir   Richard   has   had   a   long   and   distinguished   career   spanning   over   fifty   years   and   is   currently   Chairman   of   CPP   Group   based   in   Leeds   and   a   director   and Chairman of the Governance Committee of Sherritt International, a nickel and cobalt mining company based in Toronto.   Having    obtained    a    Bachelor    of    Commerce    Degree    from    Liverpool    University    he    joined    Unilever    as    a    UCMDS    (Unilever    Companies    Management Development   Scheme)   Trainee   within   their   Internal   Audit   Department.   He   then   went   on   to   various   operational   roles   in   the   UK,   Zambia,   Holland   and   France. These   proved   to   be   an   excellent   grounding   as   Sir   Richard   has   subsequently   become   one   of   the   best   respected,   high   profile   business   leaders   in   the   UK.   He has   served   as   a   Finance   Director   or   Chairman   of   a   wide   range   of   FTSE   100   and   non-traded   companies   since   1986.   Most   notably   he   served   as   a   Finance Director and then Vice Chairman of British Aerospace in the 1990’s and then as Chairman of Cable & Wireless from 2003 to 2016.   At   British   Aerospace   he   was   a   key   member   of   the   management   team   which   transformed   the   business   from   a   position   of   dire   financial   weakness   to   become Europe’s   leading   aerospace   and   defence   company.   In   recognition   of   his   instrumental   role   in   this   important   turnaround   he   was   awarded   a   CBE   for   services to the aerospace industry in 1997.   In   2009   Sir   Richard   was   thrilled   to   be   honoured   with   a   knighthood   for   his   services   to   telecommunications   but   typically   attributed   much   of   the   credit   to   the “fantastic   work   that   the   men   and   women   of   Cable   &   Wireless   have   put   in.”   This   collegiate   approach   has   inspired   loyalty   wherever   Sir   Richard   has   been   but crucially   it   is   married   with   an   incisive   financial   acumen   and   an   innate   ability   to   assess   risk.   Ultimately,   under   pinning   everything,   is   a   profound   commitment to public and social responsibility.   Other   key   positions   have   included   the   Chairmanship   of   Amersham   International   (now   GE   Healthcare),   New   Look   and   the   McLaren   Group   Limited   as   well   as Arlington Securities PLC (now part of the Goodman Group) when it managed £6.2Bn of its own commercial property assets.   In   addition   to   his   professional   career   he   has   also   served   as   HM   the   Queen’s   trustee   at   the   Royal   Botanic   Gardens   Kew   as   well   as   working   for   different   UK governments   producing   the   report   leading   to   the   formation   of   the   Department   for   Work   and   Pensions.   He   also   chaired   the   Foresight   Report   into   the   Future of UK Manufacturing.   Sir   Richard   owns   his   own   property   portfolio   and   has   personally   embarked   on   several   of   his   own   design   and   build   projects   both   at   home   and   abroad.   It   is this   passion   for   property   that   has   encouraged   Sir   Richard   to   become   part   of   the   Conrad   Team   and   we   are   extremely   honoured   and   proud   to   have   him   on board.
Angela Salt OBE Special Adviser Philanthropy
A   career   spanning   thirty   years   has   seen   Angela   achieve   significant   success   in   widely   diverse   organisations   across   the   non-profit,   public   and   government sectors. Extensive   strategy,   communication,   operational   and   change   management   skills   underpin   a   leadership   style   that   has   been   honed   and   refined   at   the   head   of some of the country’s most well recognised and successful organisations. Whether   as   CEO   of   the   Tony   Blair   Faith   Foundation,   UK   Director   of   Voluntary   Services   Overseas   or   as   Head   of   Nations   and   Regions   for   the   London   2012 Olympics,   Angela   and   her   teams   have   been   uniquely   successful.   Wherever   she   has   been,   the   application   of   her   calm   and   conscientious   approach   has   been complemented by a clear vision that first engages and then maximises stakeholder participation. Initially   rising   to   prominence   through   her   work   with   the   Millennium   Commission   between   1995-2001,   Angela   became   a   trusted   advisor   to   Ministers,   The Secretary of State, the Board and the Chief Executive of the Commission. It was for the tireless work she did here that Angela received the OBE in 2000. With an unquestionably altruistic and philanthropic outlook, Angela is a trusted and valued member of the Conrad team.
