I   am   delighted   to   announce   our   sponsorship   of   Billy   ‘The   Whizz’   Monger,   coinciding   with   the   winning   combination   of   Billy   &   Carlin   Racing   claiming   victory   at the historic Pau Grand Prix. The victory marked Billy’s first win since his life-changing accident two years ago. Having   initially   feared   his   race   was   over   following   an   early   incident   that   left   him   with   bent   steering   it’s   testament   to   Billy’s   great   talent   and   ability   that   a switch   to   wet   tyres   at   the   end   of   the   warm   up   lap   enabled   him   to   carve   through   the   field   from   an   11th   qualifying   position   and   achieve   a   landmark   victory. That   the   switch   was   made   despite   advice   to   the   contrary   from   his   race   engineer   will   come   as   no   surprise   to   those   that   have   followed   the   incredible   story   of this brave and strong-willed young man. Following   a   highly   successful   kart   racing   career   Billy   became   a   prodigious   young   talent   in   Ginetta   Junior   before   joining   the   British   F4   Championship.   It   was whilst   racing   in   the   F4   series   on   16th   April   2017   aged   just   17,   that   Billy’s   life   changed   forever.   He   was   critically   injured   during   a   race   at   Donington   Park   when he   collided   with   an   unsighted,   stationary   car   at   120mph.   Stuck   in   the   car   for   90   minutes   after   the   crash   he   was   left   with   life   changing   injuries   when   medics were tragically forced to amputate both his legs. Amazingly,   it   was   announced   as   early   as   June   2017   that   Billy   would   return   to   competition.   His   courage,   irrepressible   enthusiasm   and   unstintingly   positive attitude   fuelled   by   the   support   of   the   motor   sport   industry   and   wider   public   saw   his   rehabilitation   progress   so   quickly   that   within   just   11   weeks   he   was   back behind   the   wheel   of   a   specially   adapted   Carlin   F3   car.   By   March   2018   he   was   ready   to   return   to   racing   in   the   British   F3   Championship,   a   series   that   featured the   late   great   Ayrton   Senna.   In   his   first   race   back,   Billy   qualified   fifth   on   the   grid   and   incredibly   went   onto   finish   third   in   the   race.   ‘Billy   Whizz’   was   most definitely back and to cap it all he walked onto the podium. It   is   impossible   not   to   have   a   deep-seated   and   profound   admiration   for   a   young   man   who   having   only   just   turned   20   is   an   incredible   ambassador   to represent   our   brand.   The   truth   however   is   that   our   sponsorship   decision   is   based   far   more   on   a   belief   that   Billy   has   the   innate   driving   ability   to   propel himself to the very top of the motor-racing tree. Myself and the entire Conrad Team are extremely proud to be a part of Billy’s journey.
